We, the people

Often times an event can have such a significant impact on a culture that it ends up defining the ethos and spirit of a people. Every year, we commemorate the Republic Day reaffirming our belief in the fundamental tenet of our Constitution: Unity in diversity. The day marks our tryst with destiny, and our march towards an inclusive, progressive society. This year also, the Piramal Swasthya team celebrated the momentous day with a pledge to be vigilant and protect our freedoms enshrined in the constitution. Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa (a country that had close links with the Mahatma) was the chief guest presiding over the celebrations.

Events of the recent past show that we have a lot more ground to cover—the farmers’ suicides, economic disparity, sexual abuse, intolerance, communalism, etc., bespeak that we are still fighting for the soul of our republic. India today is a far cry from the Gandhian values espoused by our founding fathers. Ours is a nation that produced leaders who refused positions of power because their conscience wouldn’t allow them to, as serving people was a higher calling to them. It was these selfless souls who, through the nobility of their work and sacrifice, defended the sanctity of Indianness. Bearing in mind this profound thought, of continuing to follow the steps shown by our eminent forebears, Piramal Swasthya takes up a variety of innovative initiatives in order to drive India towards a healthier and therefore happier tomorrow.

Everyday PSMRI enthusiastically and devotedly participates in developmental activities and programs to continue this journey towards transformation of India which resonates with the ideas of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity of the Republic. Acting on these very steps, PSMRI has taken revolutionary measures in providing a just system of healthcare, right and liberty of expression of health issues of even the most marginalized, equality in terms of access to healthcare and shaping a fraternity which continually achieves new milestones in health.

This Republic Day reminded us to take responsibility of building ourselves in order to build the nation and be true to this promise of progress so as to witness the India which is meant to be. We, the people of this country, should take a stand to spread the spirit of the Constitution, and be united in diversity. Only then would the cultural heritage we celebrate stand valid and hold meaning.
